Ярослава Мельник

This book explores the intertextuality of popular Ukrainian literature with regard to Christian apocryphal themes. In the course of the reading of a large volume of Ukrainian literary works, it traces the process of the gradual spread of apocryphal motives in Ukrainian literature from medieval times to the present. The author shows how apocryphal imagery and ideas were entering the spiritual space of Ukrainians, represents the national receptive model of the ‘concealed books’, and reflects upon the religious dimension of Ukrainian literature.
