This volume contains the first edition of the Slavonic Heirmoi of all eight echoi in the linear notation of the so-called “Kyivan square note.” The publication is based on one of the oldest manuscripts of linear notation of the Kyivan Church, the Suprasl Heirmologion from 1598–1601. The present edition includes facsimile and typeset reproduction of the text accompanied by introductory articles on naturе of Heirmos genre, review of scholarly critical editions, commentary, and comparative list of the repertoire of Slavonic manuscripts with musical notes from the twelfth through eighteenth centuries. Being one of the earliest samples of the linear mensural record of music in the Byzantine-Slavic area, this manuscript enables more clear and thorough understanding of musical poetiсs of the Heirmos, one of the principal genres of sacred monodу, its perfect melodics and well-ballanced time-dimensional organization.
