The publication of the Supraśl Canticles (scores of works of polyphony) from the end of the 17th century reveals a shining and previously unknown page of the church music history of Annunciation Monastery in Supraśl in the active period under the mantle of the Basilian Order. Located at the intersection of Belarusian, Ukrainian, and Polish religious cultures, the monastery played an important role in the acceptance and assimilation of Western innovations, yet still maintained the basis of the liturgical, theological, and musical foundations of the Eastern rite.
The publication contains a facsimile reconstruction of the manuscript musical texts and a transcription of the choral parts (volume 1, book 1), a restoration of the full scores of 49 compositions (volume 2, book 2), and research articles on the musical history of the monastery, and codicological and paleographic observations on the manuscript monuments and particularities of the Church Slavonic language with characteristics of the Ukrainian dialect (volume 3, book 2).
